About Us

Oguta Lake

At Oguta Wetland Initiative, we are passionate about protecting one of Nigeria’s most vital wetland ecosystems. Our team is made up of environmentalists, conservationists, and community leaders dedicated to making a difference.

Our Story

The Oguta Wetland has long been a sanctuary for diverse wildlife and a source of livelihood for local communities. Over time, human activity and climate change have threatened its balance. Our initiative was born out of a need to restore and safeguard this precious environment.

Our Mission

To protect, restore, and sustainably manage the Oguta Wetlands through community engagement, scientific research, and advocacy.

Our Vision

A thriving wetland ecosystem that supports biodiversity and enriches the lives of the communities around it.

Our Work

Our conservation projects focus on restoring the wetland’s natural balance while promoting sustainable development. Here’s an overview of our initiatives:

  1. Wetland Restoration Program

We conduct habitat restoration projects, replanting native vegetation and rehabilitating degraded areas. Our team monitors water quality and biodiversity to ensure positive changes.

  2. Community-Based Conservation

We work hand-in-hand with local communities, providing sustainable livelihood alternatives like eco-tourism and responsible fishing practices to reduce environmental impact.

  3. Research & Data Collection

Understanding the wetland’s ecosystem is key to its preservation. We conduct studies on plant and animal species, climate impact, and pollution levels.

  4. Youth & School Programs

Through our Eco-Schools Initiative, we educate young minds about wetland conservation. We organize field trips, clean-up days, and environmental clubs in schools.

  5. Advocacy & Policy Support

We collaborate with government agencies and environmental organizations to push for stronger wetland protection laws.
